History:

  • River Oaks was established in the 1920s by William Hogg and Michael Hogg, the sons of former Texas Governor Jim Hogg. Along with attorney Hugh Potter, they developed what is now an exclusive community with plenty of parks and esplanades liberally planted with oaks, shrubs, azaleas, and other beautiful plants and flowers.
  • This stately neighborhood is located within the 610 Loop between Downtown and Uptown. Its boundaries are set by Buffalo Bayou, South Shepherd Street, Willowick Road, and Westheimer Road. It sits north of the Upper Kirby district and near the freeway and other major thoroughfares such as Kirby Drive and San Felipe Street.
